Pioneer Faith: Joanna Brooks
Award-winning author Joanna Brooks discusses her love for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, as well as her frustrations with the faith. A self-described "Mormon feminist," Brooks has sometimes felt misunderstood and unwelcome in her tradition. Despite these frictions, Brooks proudly proclaims her Mormon heritage and its history as a "pioneer faith."
Brooks is professor of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University. She is the author of The Book of Mormon Girl: A Memoir of an American Faith, and several other books. She answers questions about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at her blog, AskMormonGirl.com. She was also featured recently on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (see link below).
