Praying from the Depths: Heather King

Heather King has done her time in the trenches of despair. After she had her first drink as a teenager, she spent the next couple of decades chasing the euphoria she found in drink and drugs. Alcoholic and poly-addicted, she crashed toward her own death at blazing speed.

Now she is sober and Roman Catholic. The story of her return to sobriety is recounted in a number of her books. In her most recent publication, Holy Desperation: Praying as If Your Life Depends On It, she explores the manner in which the rhythms of her faith have kept her anchored in the land of the living.

Heather King is the author of nine books. She writes a regular column for Angelus, a publication of the Diocese of Los Angeles.
