A Sensitivity to Others: Brad Elliott Stone and Jacob L Goodson
We welcome back philosophers Brad Elliott Stone and Jacob L. Goodson to discuss their recent edited volume on Richard Rorty, Emmanuel Levinas, and Jewish prophetic traditions. The book, Rorty and the Prophetic: Jewish Engagements with a Secular Philosopher, is the culmination of more than twenty years of conversations.
In this wide-ranging conversation, we pick up threads from their earlier appearance on our show, when Stone and Goodson were discussing their book Introducing Prophetic Pragmatism. In particular, we consider how philosophers describe the care we owe to others, and the language we use to make our case to alleviate that suffering.
Jacob L. Goodson is associate professor of philosophy at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas.
Brad Elliott Stone is professor of philosophy at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.
Stone and Goodson appeared together in episode #2025, The Promise of Prophetic Pragmatism. Professor Goodson has also appeared before in episodes #2036, #1928 (one of our live episodes!), and #2016
